"Percy Thomas Architects worked closely with the Sherman Theatre Company and the Arts Council for Wales re-model the existing venue. The brief saw a radical overhaul of the public front-of-house and the complete back-of-house accommodation, to make it fit for purpose by contemporary standards.

The main auditorium space was refurbished, and the secondary ‘in-the-round’ space, ‘Venue 2’, was re-modelled - providing improved stage loading access, a control room and access to dressing rooms. The public front-of-house has been opened up, removing much of the structural clutter, and a new bar and gallery restaurant fitted into the space.

The back-of-house theatre facilities were demolished and re-built in a new configuration, greatly increasing the amount of dressing rooms space and support facilities. A new office suite for the theatre management was created, along with improved wardrobe and storage areas.
The long term ambition of the Sherman Theatre is to provide facilities that enable a quantum step upwards in the quality of drama performed and created at the venue. Following the refurbishment, the Sherman Theatre Company merged with Script Cymru to form the new resident company.
