With this project ESA have successfully created a visually striking, sensitively restored and extended destination workplace that celebrates the idiosyncrasies of this important local Heritage building whilst embracing the new working culture of William Grant and Sons to deliver a sustainable contemporary and unique HQ for WGS.
An important local Heritage asset, our clients were keen to bring this former courthouse back into viable use by building on the striking nature of the building and celebrating its heritage status whilst still delivering a commercially viable, sustainable scheme appropriate for current working practices. The external building fabric was reused and restored where possible and original construction methods celebrated. Architecturally sensitive extensions to the original building were introduced to increase floor area.
Internally the building was significantly re-planned to allow the scheme to respond to the requirements and demands of the client brief whilst allowing the building to remain as flexible as possible to anticipate changing working methods.
A BREEAM Excellent building ESA worked also closely with William Grant and Sons to deliver a full internal CAT B fit out which allowed them to embrace new working methodologies and spaces, these included a wide range of flexible ‘activity based’ working areas, a state of the art restaurant and kitchen, highly specialised function rooms, a destination bar and entertainment area alongside a new company gym and a range of outside working spaces.
