The Nanotech and Quantum Information building is an interdisciplinary research facility for the University of Bristol and boasts some of the quietest research laboratories in the world. The centre now attracts scientists from all over the world and is an essential part of the Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration with Cambridge University and University College London. Nanotechnology involves the manipulation and fabrication of objects on an atomic scale. The laboratories are home to an extensive range of scanning probe microscopes, high resolution analytical facilities and an instrument development workshop. Of particular importance is the requirement to avoid vibration. The most sensitive experiments will be carried out in the basement floor that is founded on bedrock.
