Building 9 is a new state of the art teaching facility for the University of Middlesex and will be the new home for their Business and Legal Faculty. The scheme consists of a striking new 4 storey building carefully linking to and incorporating the existing Grade 2 Hendon Library and Town Hall Annexe buildings.
Our proposal sees the removal of a dated single storey teaching building alongside a series of unattractive secondary spaces and poor quality 1970s infill additions to the rear of the existing Library building. The Library itself will be relocated to a new bespoke building designed by esa located directly opposite.
Careful consideration of the building’s relationship with the surrounding heritage assets has underscored our approach. The scheme was developed in close consultation with heritage advisors, heritage officers and Historic England to ensure that the design is sensitive to and compliments its surroundings. A mix of traditional building materials referencing the adjacent heritage buildings set against modern materials such as zinc roofs and glazed links will ensure an exciting, highly sustainable and engaging 21st Century learning space set respectfully in its setting is delivered.
