Chandos House is a Grade I listed building originally designed and built by Robert and James Adam. It was conceived as one of a series of prominent town houses built on a speculative basis between 1769 and 1771 within the fashionable Marylebone estate of Lady Margaret Cavendish-Holles.

By the mid 1990’s, the house had fallen into an extremely dilapidated condition and had been on English Heritage’s ‘Buildings at Risk Register’ since it was first compiled in 1991.

The redevelopment of No. 10 Duchess Street had two objectives: To create new lettable office space of sufficiently high quality to command a premium rent; and to complement the neighbouring properties of the HDWE including Chandos House, and enhance the cultural value of the estate as a whole.

ESA architects have carefully restored Chandos House for the Society of Medicine as offices, conference facilities and overnight rooms for visiting physicians.
