We completed this historic terrace of seven properties for Howard de Walden in 2013.
Facade retention proposals were originally seen as inappropriate in planning terms, but after fully understanding the reasoning the ‘book-ends’ of the development took on a refurbishment approach with No.17 becoming residential, and ‘front rooms’ reinstated at ground and first floor levels to avoid visible office lighting grids.
The new-build designs to the rear respect original plot widths and produce a rich, formal articulation which allows oblique vistas throughout the levels; thus creating diverse character to the working environment despite the expansive floor plates. BREEAM ‘Excellent’ has been achieved, thanks to extensive areas of photovoltaic roof slates and 20 GSHP boreholes.
The build cost was £11 million with work completed in August 2013. The main contractor was Volker Fitzpatrick and the engineers were Elliott Wood and RHB Partnership.
