To the rear of Chandos House is 10 Duchess Street, a Grade II listed building also owned by the Howard de Walden Estate. This contemporary new glass and steel development for office use is juxtaposed with the listed façade retention.
The building lacked sufficient daylight; a problem remedied by the installation of a large glazed lantern behind the existing front façade. Directly beneath this, occupants now enjoy a new double-height office space.
The overall development approach enabled Chandos House to be restored to a high standard without any cost to the public purse. The two structures are interdependent, but share common links both visually and physically.
