Setting the template for a new gateway to Basildon town centre, the £12 million Southernhay mixed-use development by ESA architecture : design was granted planning permission in June 2006 and has now moved into detailed design. The scheme will create residential and commercial accommodation with parking and amenity space to form a high-density addition to the town centre and will act as a catalyst for further development and overall regeneration of this key brown field site. The development comprises 121 apartments in the form of one and two bedroom flats. With excellent links to adjoining public transport interchanges this scheme will transform the surrounding area.
